Tabernash, Colorado · Grand County

A working ranch in an elk migration corridor.

Rudfish Ranch is a family-run hay and habitat operation in the Colorado high country — raising hay, restoring beetle-killed forest, and tending the water that holds fish, Boreal toads, and the elk that pass through every season.

About Us

Diversified agriculture, run with conservation in mind.

At Rudfish Ranch, we are dedicated to raising high-quality fish and producing hay and alfalfa using regenerative farming practices. We also operate a commercial Christmas tree farm as part of our diversified agricultural operations — all carried out while maintaining a strong commitment to enhancing wildlife ecosystems and supporting biodiversity across the property.

Fish & Waterways

We raise high-quality fish and maintain the aquatic habitat behind it — water that also supports trophy trout and Boreal toads in the wild.

Hay, Alfalfa & Christmas Trees

Hay and alfalfa are grown using regenerative farming practices, alongside a commercial Christmas tree farm — a diversified operation built to be sustainable on its own terms.

Forest Recovery

For nine years we've been restoring forest stands lost to pine beetle infestation, improving habitat quality, reducing wildfire risk, and enhancing the health and beauty of the ranch.

The land

What lives here, and why it matters.

Rudfish Ranch sits inside a key elk migration corridor, which shapes most of what we do. These efforts have created and maintained important habitat for aquatic life — including trophy trout and Boreal toads — and for a wide variety of wildlife across the property.

The species list below isn't incidental. It's the reason the habitat work happens at all.

  • Elk
  • Moose
  • Black Bear
  • Mountain Lion
  • Wolf
  • Mule Deer
  • Pronghorn Antelope
  • Waterfowl
  • Eagles
  • Hawks
  • Falcon
  • Boreal Toad
  • Trophy Trout

Forest Restoration

Year 9

Of an ongoing effort to restore forest stands following a major pine beetle infestation — significantly improving habitat quality, reducing wildfire risk, and enhancing the health and beauty of the ranch.

Restoration is a long-horizon project — this is a milestone, not a finish line.
